Building a custom home in Park City is a major investment — not just financially, but emotionally and in the time spent bringing your vision to life. One of the most defining parts of that experience is communication. When information is clear and expectations are aligned, the construction process feels exciting and rewarding.
Here’s why communication is critical in custom home building — and how we approach it at Moncrief Construction.
Understanding Expectations from Both Sides
The biggest risk in any custom build is a mismatch in expectations.
If we don’t fully understand your priorities — or if the path forward isn’t clear to you — frustration can build quickly. Miscommunication can lead to overlooked details, schedule disruptions, and unexpected costs.
Our focus is on helping you enjoy the entire journey. We want you to feel informed, supported, and confident from the very first conversation to the moment we’re all celebrating what we’ve created together in your new home.
How We Keep Clients in the Loop
Communication is built into every step of our construction process:
- Live Project Schedule
You’ll have access to a dynamic, online schedule that we update weekly so you can easily track progress and upcoming milestones. - Site Walks
While our superintendent is actively managing work onsite throughout the week, we also schedule every other week site walks you and your design team. These walkthroughs allow us to review progress in person, answer questions quickly, and make decisions together. These aren’t mandatory (many clients live out of state), but we highly recommend them when you’re available.
- Weekly Email Updates
Each week, we share a clear summary of what happened on site, what’s coming next, and any selections or approvals needed to maintain momentum. - Open, Responsive Communication
Questions are always welcome. If something’s on your mind, we respond quickly so you’re never left wondering.
Helping You Stay Ahead of Decisions
Good communication isn’t just about sharing updates — it’s about making sure decisions happen at the right time. Custom homes involve an incredible number of moving parts, and even a small selection delay can create a domino effect that slows the entire project.
We work proactively to prevent those bottlenecks. Early in the build, we create a decision roadmap that connects selections to construction phases. Throughout the project, we keep you informed about what’s needed and why — with the time and clarity you need to choose confidently.
This proactive approach keeps work flowing smoothly and supports a predictable project experience.
Delivering Bad News (Because It Happens)
Even in the best-managed home builds, surprises can arise — from unforeseen site conditions to supply-chain changes.
Our commitment is transparency:
- You’ll always hear from us quickly.
- You’ll understand the implications.
- And you’ll receive solutions, not excuses.
Clear communication earns trust — especially when things shift.
Keeping Everyone on the Same Page
A successful custom home requires alignment across your entire team. We stay in regular communication with your architect, designer, and trades so everyone is working from the same information.
A comprehensive selections tracker keeps every detail organized and visible, helping prevent rework, errors, or delays in the field.
Giving You the Right Amount of Involvement
Our clients trust us to manage the project with attention to detail and a high standard of quality which includes managing day-to-day problem-solving.
We won’t overwhelm you with every small issue that comes up on site. That’s our job to handle. But you will always be informed about the things that matter like key decisions, milestones, and any items that affect your budget, timeline, or design.
It’s a balance we’re proud of: keeping you in the loop without dragging you through the weeds.
What Clients Tell Us
One thing we hear consistently from clients, especially those building from out of state, is how much they appreciate our regular updates and progress photos. And that our responsive communication eases the distance and helps them stay connected to their Park City home.
The Bottom Line
Communication shapes the experience of building a custom home just as much as craftsmanship shapes the result.
Our approach is proactive, organized, and centered on your peace of mind — so you can enjoy the process, not just the final walk-through.
If you’re planning a custom home in Park City or the surrounding mountain communities and want a builder who keeps you informed every step of the way, we’d love to connect.
